The Beast of Jack

Is this island driving us crazy? I have to ask myself if our sanity is safe after what I saw today. Jack displayed ludicrous behavior, menace and savagery, today, and Simon is starting to believe the beastie myth! I know I’ve been saying that the beastie isn’t real, but I’m really kind of scared. A leader has to be brave, not show that he is scared no matter what. Be able to laugh at danger and smile at death. I called the meeting today not only to set things straight, but to also show everyone that I was staying strong through all this beastie talk. I think that the beast has become an effigy of fear of sorts. The littleuns are scared of the dark, and being away from home has been really hard on them, and the beastie talk is their expression of being afraid. I don’t think its real, but….. it’s Just a little scary is all. Earlier today, during the meeting, a small boy named Percival fell to the power of an incantation, and became disursive, screaming and chanting, a blood-chilling screech expelled from his lungs. This scream was unlike anything I have ever heard, something not of this world, something that death himself would utter under his breath. This screech brought bouts of lamentation from Piggy and Simon, and I felt the tears well up in my eyes too. I thought to my self for a second, “We will die here.” But I know we won’t. I just hope that Jack starts helping out more. I feel like I have been losing the respect of the boys on the island. I think they are starting to look up to Jack more just because he caught that STUPID PIG! I think that’s one of the reasons, but also because the boys are all a little scared of him. He bullies Piggy, and they are afraid they could be next. I hope everything turns out alright…
