A View to a Death
Give in to temptation
Perspective: Ralph
I had the strangest dream last night. I dreamt that I was Simon, and that I was talking to a large sow’s head! The head was on a stick, and it had flies buzzing all around it. And it was talking! I felt up at my head, and I was bleeding. I got dizzy all of the sudden, and then I realized that somehow I had gone from a little clearing in the woods, to a ledge where a corpulent figure sat, perched on a rock. As I looked closer, it became apparent that a parachute had killed the man, because he was tangled in the cords and wires of his parachute. His slightly rotted flesh reeked, and I nearly vomited. The figure was also encased in flies, and as the wind blew, the figure would sit up, and the flies would scatter, revealing the white bone of his skull. I awoke from this dream suddenly, and breathing heavily, I checked to make sure I was still alive. Later that day, Jack sent some boys to tell us of his party, and the meat that they had there. Could this meat be from the sow in my dream? Anyway, Piggy and I made our way over to the rock where Jack’s tribe was living, and sure enough, there were huge piles of meat, steaming and warm from the fire’s phosphoresce. Jack, sitting on a log, like a tyrannical king shouted “has everyone eaten as much as they want?” some of the boys, including Piggy and myself, instantly reached for more. I felt like I was giving in, like Jack was gaining power over me, and I wanted to stop, but I just couldn’t! It tasted so good! Jack continued, asking who would join his tribe, and to my great surprise “I will.” “me!” “count me in”. I tried to arguer, saying that the rain would come soon, but to no avail. Maybe we should just give in to Jack………..
